Making Waves at the London Aquatics Centre
Yesterday we ran one of those events that truly makes our hearts sing.
A free major events showcase for 40 members of the Women’s Sport Collective, in partnership with Aquatics GB, at the British Championships.
We’re so grateful to Karen Webb Moss for hosting us and providing:
A behind-the-scenes tour of the entire venue at the London Aquatics Centre, including media area, poolside and training
The opportunity to meet senior women working across Aquatics GB, including Aimee Willmott, Callie-Ann Warrington, Janine Harriman, Karen Walton and Claire Ewing
A brilliant panel featuring Izzy Griffiths, Leah Slingsby and Laura Stephens
VIP hospitality at Bread Street Kitchen
A night of great action in the pool, including a new World Record
Not only did our members learn a huge amount from the opportunity to get under the skin of the running of a major event, and from meeting the women running the show, but they also made powerful new connections with other women in the sports industry.
We had representatives from Gymshark, Wimbledon, Volleyball England, MatchFit, Essex Rebels, DCMS, King’s College London, Trivandi, Wasserman Live, Designwerk, Sea Lanes, Two Circles, Dojo Sports, UK Youth, Brentford FC, University of Bath, CALM, KPMG, OVO Arena Wembley, the Met Police, Swim England, University of Worcester, East London Sport, the Borough of Greenwich, UEL and SailGP, along with a number of freelancers.
It takes effort (and an allocation of funding) to offer an event like this for free, but the impact it had for 40 women working in sports events, or hoping to, was absolutely huge.
